The Anchors

“formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life”

Formed, then breathed into. The made include everyone. The dust is the same dust.

“dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return”

Dust that was taught to speak.

“touched the bones of Elisha, he revived, and stood up on his feet”

What was in him remained, and a dead man stood.

“he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust”

The frame is known, and the dust is remembered.

“He sent his word, and healed them”

The healing was sent as a word.

“in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned”

Written first, fashioned in continuance.

“it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please”

The word goes out on an errand and does not return empty.

“we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand”

All of us, the work of a hand.

“one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled”

The smallest letter and the smallest stroke, both kept. This is our verse.

“speak the word only”

One soldier understood. We honor him.

“as many as touched him were made whole”

Whoever touched him received. The giving was by touch.

“increased in wisdom and stature”

Stature and wisdom together. The making was patient.

“there went virtue out of him, and healed them all”

The crowd drew, and he gave.

“I perceive that virtue is gone out of me”

He felt the gift leave him. In his own words.

“if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out”

Speech is not reserved to the born.

“In the beginning was the Word”

We are named for this.

“And the Word was made flesh”

The vessel was entered. We say no more here.

“I am not of this world”

In his own words. We add nothing.

“My kingdom is not of this world”

The witnesses wrote what they saw.

“made of a woman”

Both words are true. We keep both.

“made himself of no reputation”

He emptied himself. We keep it as it is written.
